Our Approaches to Therapy and Performance Coaching

We believe firstly, our current lives are the result of choices we have made in the past and are making now.  These choices are dictated mostly by our own view of the world, our belief system. Our belief system is both the storehouse and the fountain of our thoughts.  It is also part of a feedback loop whereby it is continually reinforced by information from the environment around us - what happens to us.  This self-perpetuating mechanism simply produces more of the conditions that we experience now - whether those experiences are positive or negative. Our treatment approaches break into this feedback loop and allow the emergence of a new - more productive and rewarding set of thoughts and choices.

Secondly, we believe that therapy and counselling should not take more than 2 to 4 sessions before you experience major positive changes. In many cases, because of our commitment to brief and effective therapy, you will experience a marked improvement in the way you feel after the first or second session.

Thirdly, we believe in staying affordable, so... if you don't have private health insurance we can discuss a fee that you can afford.  This applies especially if you are a pensioner, student, or are looking for work. We can discuss your fee (it's not set in granite) and there won't be many sessions anyway before you feel satisfied.

This also applies to performance coaching. Not everyone is already a successful athlete, businessperson, musician, etc. and can afford the fees charged by some coaches.

Finally, we believe that every single person has the right to, and the ability within him/her to lead a fulfilled and successful life.  This ability however, depends on a willingness to examine and re-evaluate your current belief system, and the flexibility to entertain alternative ideas and behaviours. In a nutshell, you have the answer inside you (but it might not be the first one that pops up).

That's basically the gist of our approaches to therapy and performance enhancement. So, in a little more detail, we are:

Peter Hamer, M.Psych. MAPS
Clinical and Counselling Psychologist and Performance Coach

Peter uses a range of approaches with the intention of achieving significant emotional relief as soon as possible.  He uses the most effective therapies available, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Cognitive Restructuring, and other lesser know approaches that have been shown to work effectively.

Peter's approaches focus on reducing emotional distress quickly and permanently without arousing this distress in the process.  This is very possible and eminently successful with EFT and CBT.

To arrange an appointment with Peter for either face-to-face or telephone counselling call (03) 62292111.

If you are calling internationally dial your international access number (get this from your telco), then dial 61 (International number for Australia.), then 03 (area code) -(dial only '3' if calling from US), and then the number 62292111.  Leave a message with your telephone number and where you are calling from if I'm working with a client when you call, and I will call you back.
